On July 1, 2018, Massachusetts stepped into the future by fully legalizing recreational cannabis (Editor’s note: Way to go!).
Not only will our friends out east experience an influx of people walking around stoned and happy, but also walking around stoned and hungry. Luckily for everyone, Massachusetts is the birthplace of many great munchie foods. So, in honor of this momentous occasion, we’ve compiled a list of the best Massachusetts munchies. Locals know these already, but we predict an uptick in road trips to the bay state.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Is there any better snack than a warm chocolate chip cookie? The answer is no, and guess what? The chocolate chip cookie was born and raised in Whitman, Massachusetts. Circa 1938, while owning the Toll House Inn (you see where this is going), Ruth Graves Wakefield, along with partner-chef Sue Brides, thought, “Yo, what if we toss a Nestle chocolate bar in the middle of the cookie dough?” Next thing you know they had their first batch of Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookies, known today as the chocolate chip cookie. Not only do we owe them thanks, but we also owe them a Nobel Peace Prize.
New England/Boston Clam Chowder
Could you even respect this list if clam chowder were absent? Born in Massachusetts at the hands of foreign settlers, New England clam chowder aka Boston clam chowder (always add oyster crackers) is one of the best foods in existence. A cup is a perfect appetizer, a bowl is a perfect meal, and an entire bucket is a perfect food for anyone in Massachusetts who’s fresh off a 1G pre-roll. Get high and get clammy, my friends.
Dunkin’ Donuts
(See above. Could you even respect this list?) Cannabis and donuts go together like Sonny & Cher. So naturally Dunkin’ Donuts is the perfect place for any smokers with a hankering for something sweet and delicious. Founded (Quincy) and headquartered (Canton) in Massachusetts, Dunkin’ Brands has created plenty of munchie options for local cannabis enthusiasts. Not only does Dunks have great donuts, their coffee is legend, so if you’re seeking either, Dunkin’ Donuts is the place for you. I suggest the Glazed Blueberry Cake Donut. It’s fire.

Cape Cod Potato Chips
Invented in Hyannis, Massachusetts, Cape Cod Potato Chips are the perfect munchie for a healthy-ish enthusiast. They’re cooked as kettle chips instead of fried as potato chips, so if you’re looking for a low-guilt munchie, these are what you want.
Lobster Rolls
Lobster Rolls are my JAM. They’re another delicacy courtesy of New England, and to be honest, they’re the absolute best option on this list. Coming in two versions, Maine (hot with butter) and Connecticut (cold with mayo), lobster rolls are the perfect munchie for someone who’s high and looking to eat a real-ass meal. If you’re REALLY hungry, order some clam chowder for an appetizer. Thank me later.
Boston Cream Pie
Since December 1996, the Boston Cream Pie has been the official dessert of Massachusetts. That’s really all that needs to be said for why it’s here. Every restaurant in the state better quadruple up on ingredients to make this pie-that’s-actually-a-cake, because come July 1, there’ll be like an 817% increase in orders for it.
Nantucket Nectars Juices
Nantucket juices are some of the best juices in the game and we have Nantucket, Massachusetts to thank for it. Sure, this isn’t a food, but beverages can be munchies, too. Just ask your cottonmouth. If you’re high and your mouth feels like it’s attending Burning Man, pour up a Nantucket and satisfy your soul. That Pineapple Orange Banana flavor is a gift from the heavens above.
