Merry Jane, the cannabis media and lifestyle brand brainchild of Snoop Dogg, has been honored with the cannabis industry’s first ever Emmy nomination for its VH1 production of “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.”
The program has been nominated under the category of “Host for a Reality/Reality-Competition Program,” and the award ceremony will air this September.
Merry Jane has also ramped up its video production efforts with several new offerings, including “Seed to Strain,” “Deep Weed,” and Snoop’s own celebrity interview series, “GGN,” which stands for Double G News Network.
The unlikely combination of acclaimed lifestyle entrepreneur-turned-convict Martha Stewart and the indelibly understated Snoop proved to be too delightfully tempting for both celebrity guests and viewers. A bevy of stars have already signed on for the upcoming season, including P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, Usher, Patti Labelle, LL Cool J, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard, Margaret Cho, Laverne Cox, RuPaul, and more.
Ted Chung, co-founder of Merry Jane and media entrepreneur with Cashmere Agency, commented, “It’s an honor to receive the cannabis industry’s first Emmy nomination, not only for Merry Jane, but for the industry overall.”
The odd couple in the cannabis industry has been pairing food and celebrities with entertainment (and just the slightest hint of cannabis). As Snoop put it, “My homegirl, Martha, and I have a special bond that goes way back. Can’t wait for you to see how we roll together!”
Merry Jane will be producing even more video content in the upcoming year, having just greenlit a short-form series featuring Wiz Khalifa that’s said to combine “Jackass” and “American Ninja Warrior.” Seth Rogen will also be featured on Merry Jane with new episodes of his show “Talking Buds,” which gives voice to the various strains and their effects.
Ted Chung said of Merry Jane, “Our goal is to change cultural and social perceptions of cannabis, and this nomination shows that we are doing exactly that…By showcasing the realities of modern culture through insightful and engaging programming, Merry Jane will continue to lead the fight to remove stigmas around cannabis and push for full legalization.”
