Who doesn't love going to the state fair, especially ones that offer the tried-and-true mix of fried foods, carnival rides, adorable livestock, and a cannabis growing competition?
That's right, this fall the Washington, D.C. State Fair will be featuring a "Best Bud" cannabis growing competition on September 12. To our knowledge, it's the first state fair to offer such a contest (legally, anyway), and it will be held at 4:20 pm (of course).
The fair has held various competitions over the years, including best pie, best Mason jar flower arrangement, longest vegetable, and best home-brewed beer. In addition to adding the "Best Bud" contest this year, the fair will also introduce "Best Compost" and "Best Cut Flower."
Interested participants (in the cannabis grow contest, not the pet parade) will submit a 1-2 gram bud from their home grow enclosed in a Mason jar. Samples will be judged on the following factors:
- Touch
- Odor
- Appearance
- Growing details
- Overall grow technique
Notice something missing? That's right, judges will not actually consume the dried flower in any form and are merely awarding the winning strain based on the aforementioned details. Perhaps you're free to partake in your own sample after the competition concludes before you wander off to find an elephant ear the size of your forearm.
I don't know about you, but a state fair that offers a cannabis growing contest, delicious pies, and an adorable pet parade officially sounds like the best fair ever. Anyone interested in a road trip this September?
