July 1st ushered in a new era for the California cannabis marketplace. When marijuana was legalized for adult use on January 1, 2018, a six-month grace period was offered to cannabis companies to become fully compliant with the new laws. That period came to a close on June 30th. Strict rules governing the testing, packaging, and labeling of all cannabis products means that some California companies have had to pull their wares off shelves until they can meet the restrictions. Many well-known cannabis brands are not currently available—but most companies are working feverishly to get compliant product consumer-ready.
