Gary Payton

7/9/2023
I decided to give Gary Payton a try when my source put it on a sale that I could not pass up. The smell isn't fantastic -- a bit of a cheesy, earthy, chemical smell. I vape my herb, so flavors are typically subtle. While powerful, here's nothing notably appealing or offensive about the taste and smell while vaping herb, perhaps a little bit gasoline and a bit of skunk. My partner, however, finds the smell and flavor too powerful and a bit musty. What Gary Payton lacks in the herb vaping experience it makes up with in a happy, relaxed feeling that hits you quick and hard. Moreover, my head remains clear so I can carry on a conversation without others suspecting that I'm flying high. It also seems to remove the clutter from my brain, improving my memory significantly. Three qualities about Gary Payton I think are notable: While vaping the herb supplies a quick and potent high, the feeling lasts only about 90 minutes or so, no matter how much I smoke. To counter that, I smoke a moderate amount and then do a small hit an hour later. The second hit relaxes me and brings on a wave of creativity. While it doesn't make my giggly, it puts me in a good space to enjoy a movie, music or good television; unfortunately it's too hard to follow books. There are many hybrid, cookie-based strains I'd prefer, including Oreoz, GSC, and White Tahoe, but if those aren't on the menu, I'd certainly buy this strain again.

Lion's Mane

All in all, not a bad strain. The smoking experience is nothing special; it takes like earthy pot with a hint of tea and nuts. The high comes on soon and remains steady for up to 2 hours. Very competent weed if you just want to get a mild, balanced high. However, it's not going to make you necessarily talkative, energetic, sleepy or lazy. But you will retain the ability to focus and really get the munchies later.

Oreoz

I suffer from clinical depression and Oreoz gives me a few hours of feeling that everything is going to be OK. The buzz comes on real strong, and for few moments I kind of forget where I am and what I'm doing. Later, however, I find myself energetic while still quite calm. It's now my "go to" weed. This isn't enough to lose a star over, in fact I prefer it, but the buzz doesn't last as long as some other strains I consume.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights is one of my favorite stains. It's makes me, meditative, creative, lovey, hungry and sleepy, in that order, for the most part. I don't feel too giggly and I'm never anxious. I vape flower, for the most part, and Northern Lights seems to hit me late, sometimes even 15-20 minutes after smoking it. When the high hits, I go through the modes I described, above, changing every 20 minutes or so. The high I experience lasts up to three hours. Oftentimes, I use it in the evening, and I don't even get to those three hours, because I'm going to bed early. And, I've also used Northern Lights for bouts of insomnia. It works better than just about anything I've ever tried.

A very strong indica. You can hit just a little and get quite a soft, sleepy buzz. I normally vape about .2 grams of dry herb at 390 degrees and I'm baked to the point where I can't carry on a conversation without drifting off or forgetting the subject. So, this is strictly for nighttime; for listening to music or watching a mindless comedy show. If I hit this late at night, I'm lights out soon after. I got one of the best sleeps in recent memory after taking it after a stressful, worrisome day. All the concerns of the world wash away and I drifted off into bliss. The high seems to last uniquely long as well, up to 3.5 hours; so I would not recommend this early in the day when you still may have things to do later.

Purple Tangie

I bought this to help with my depression and loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has an strong antidepressant and even an uplifting quality to it. The only bad side effect is that I have gotten a little anxious on this early on, it gives way to a real comfortable, giddy high. But unlike most sativa-dominant strains, I found that while it is somewhat energizing, I am not able to keep focused, so I (dry) vaporize this early in the evening while just listening to music or watching the tube. It would probably be great for parties, because it makes me feel gregarious. I do not feel comfortable, however, hitting this while on a hike; I became lost and confused once, which never happens to me. I write for a living (both news and humor) and I find that this helps with my creativity, although its no Durban Poison or Jack Herer in that department. Purple Tangie is a very good strain that mostly fills that "happy" niche. Still it won't energize you, make you focused, or will it make you mellow and sleepy. When life is back to normal, I think this would work really great at a party.
