Lamb's Bread

6/11/2016
Gentle as a lamb! Every time I've partaken of this strain, I have experienced a gently evolving, clear, uplifting, bright mood with minimal body high and mild relaxation. No stony effects, no sedation, no being transported to an alternate realm - instead predictable, consistent, extremely manageable and even creative experiences. Even with the sativa effects, this was never racy or overwhelming at all. It just presented a strong sense of well-being for me. This is one I would recommend to novices.

Training Day

Standard disclaimer - Cannabis can have varying effects on different people, so YMMV. I almost never get anxiety or negative thoughts on cannabis, in decades of experience. This strain gave me weird thoughts, free floating anxiety, mental confusion and a feeling of being uncomfortable in my own skin. Pretty unpleasant. This was clearly at odds with the majority of reviews, so I tried it again. Twice. Same effects. Now, I may have gotten a poor batch, or more likely, it hits my receptors in exactly the wrong way. Regardless, I probably won't try it again (with hundreds of strains available here in WA).

I know many people love this strain. I tried it and didn't care for it, but thought I maybe got a poor batch. Tried it again from a different grower and got exactly the same mediocre results. I hear some like it because it's sativa effects are on the milder side. For me, it was too mild - not much cerebral effects, almost placebo-like for me. After a few more hits, I started to notice a stone creeping up. The problem was that it was accompanied by anxiety, negative self-talk, and a mild pre-headache. These effects were consistent across three sessions. Likely due to the complex balance between all the cannabinoids and terpenes, I feel that individual responses will vary widely. Some may love this strain, but it's really not for me and I'll actively avoid it.

LSD

Having some long ago experience with LSD, I felt that the name couldn't possibly be representative. I was surprised to experience a very mild yet unmistakable tinge of a psychedelic state. It was amazing to reach back almost 4 decades and recall vivid memories on this. Even though the most common phenotype is considered indica-dominant, I felt no sedation whatsoever. The mental effect was clear, light and attentive. There was NO sense of being stoned, messed up or lost in space (as fun as that can be sometimes). I generally don't taste all the subtleties that some do, but this strain was fairly tasteless and a little reminiscent of alfalfa. Good thing I don't smoke or vape for the taste. It's now on my A list due to it's unique character.

After getting past the sketchy name, I found there is a reason that it is so popular - it is an uncommonly balanced blend of cerebral stimulation and body bliss. I also find it lasts a long time and tapers off ever so gently. Enough of this and you begin to move into mild psychedelic territory, which is fantastic if you are expecting it or know how to handle it. Due to the balance, I feel I can either be active or passive - my choice - as long as I have something engaging to focus my attention. I would recommend to most people - just be aware that average potency seems to be very high with this strain, so it's best to start slow if you haven't tried it yet.

Seattle Cough

I avoided due to the name - I am a mature cannabis user and do not seek out things named 'crack', 'poison', 'cough' or 'f*ck'. Wow. My loss! Seattle Cough is now a go-to strain for me. It has the best of the sativa effects - uplifting, mental stimulation, creative impulses - layered with just enough body relaxation and chill to provide a fantastic experience. I detect a moderate amount of expansion when smoked, so maybe that is where the cough originates? I can partake anytime other than right before bedtime. I never get speedy or wound up or OCD, only fascinatingly high.

Motivation in a bud! This goes right to your head in the best way. It is mentally stimulating and motivating, so if you have a creative project you will find yourself engrossed in no time. If not, you will likely find something to do (e.g. clean the house). There is a light level of relaxation for me with this strain, but the focus is truly on clarity of thought, creative inspiration, and lessening of any social anxiety. I find it a little too stimulating for evening time, as it seems to last longer than average and there is not much body relaxation.

I avoided this strain because of the name (like a few others) and I kicked myself once I finally tried it. If you like sativa, this is a pure one. There was no body effect I could discern. Euphoria was sky high. I found it impossible to be unhappy, uptight or depressed. The clarity is notable - no stony out of the box thoughts - and is good for social occasions when you'd like to converse and make sense. I found the motivation level pretty high, but it was not racy or anxious whatsoever. If you like a good sativa, and don't tend towards paranoia or anxiety, this is a top shelf strain. Get past the dumb name and give it a try.

One toke and I was back in the summer of 1975. Like a cannabis version of Proust's cookie. Unbelievable! Intensely uplifting, clear-headed, full of sunshine energy. I was very social, happy and it stimulated my musical creativity. There was minimal body effect, absolutely no anxiety or paranoia. Just a timeless summer dream.
