Ultra Sour Chem OG

6/1/2025
I picked up some Sour Chem OG grown by Modern Flower in Ohio. Good looking nugs, up front you smell the Sour Diesel loud and clear with the spicy OG Kush smell on the back end. Tastes like Sour Diesel and the high is straight from the sour side as well, I would classify this as a sativa hybrid with mildly relaxing indica effects on the side. It's very stony and great for listening to music in my experience, I love the Chem Dog family and I would definitely buy this one again.

Squirt

6/1/2025
First thing's first: Squirt and Dirty Squirt are not the same strain, they have different genetics. That being said, I got a zip of some outdoor Squirt from Michigan and I'm really digging it. I love the original Grapefruit and crosses from it like Grapefruit Sour Dream, those sweet & sour grapefruit terps are some of my favorite terps in cannabis. But this Squirt strain doesn't have those typical Grapefruit terps; it's much more sour and bitter like the aftertaste from grapefruit, that bitter taste of rind. But I love it! Smells like sour bitter grapefruit rind, tastes like sour grapefruit with notes of carbonation (like soda). It's incredible to encounter the taste of carbonated grapefruit soda in a joint, but Squirt has it in spades. It reminds me of a Blueberry cut I had that smelled and tasted like champagne, these carbonation/champagne terps are somewhat rare in cannabis. But the high of Squirt is a classic mellow sativa high; it's euphoric, uplifting, and moderately stony, comparable to Pineapple Express or Jack. This is a great strain for during the day or chilling at night, it's a mellow sativa that isn't real stony but it isn't racy, either, and it makes for a good general purpose smoke. I would definitely buy Squirt again.

Super Sour Orange

5/20/2025
O-H - SSO! This is an official Ohio strain, Buckeye Relief has another gem here. Really good-looking nugs; they are light green with dense trichome coverage and clusters of dark orange hairs. Love the nose on the Super Sour Orange - it's a strong sour orange peel/orange soda smell with some earthy dankness (like freshly cut grass) to it; no discernible gas or chem. You can definitely ascertain the African orange in the SSO, the high is uplifting, euphoric, and a little racy; moderately stony. This is one I want to smoke before playing guitar or when I go hiking, definitely a good daytime action-oriented sativa.

Hiker's Blend

5/17/2025
Hiker's Blend has become my favorite daytime sativa here in Ohio. You get the best of both parents; it's an uplifting, euphoric, clear-headed daytime sativa buzz like Jack Herer with the spicy minty gas from the Tahoe OG side. We are accustomed to mellow daytime sativas that smell and taste like sweet/fruity/astringent terpinolene, from strains like Pineapple Express, Green Crack, Sour Diesel, Grapefruit, and soooo many others, so it is real nice to get a mellow daytime sativa that tastes like OG Kush, it's a spicy taste that reminds me of sage, cloves, and sometimes cinnamon. And it's the perfect daytime sativa buzz IMO, it's uplifting, euphoric, and energizing without being racy or otherwise anxiety-inducing. It's not very stony, but that's not what Hiker's Blend is for - this is a daytime activity strain, this is one you smoke before playing guitar, mowing the yard, plowing the fields or...hiking, for that matter. I smoked Hiker's Blend while hiking in an old growth Ohio forest and it was one of the most Ohioan things I've ever done.

Blue Runtz

4/12/2025
So I picked up a zip of outdoor Blue Runtz for $15 retail, grown by GRIP Cannabis in Michigan. I can't believe the value GRIP is delivering with their outdoor ounces, for a large commercial outdoor grow this is really good weed (and the price is unbeatable). No sign of bugs or mold, smells like blueberry candy with a nice earthiness behind it. The taste is the inverse of the smell; it has this earthy taste that reminds me of old school dank from the 90's and 2000's, with the blueberry candy taste behind it. And the effects are straight from the Blueberry side, since Blueberry tends to pass its strong indica potency as a dominant trait; it's a comprehensive indica buzz that I feel throughout my entire body, all muscle soreness is gone and it gets me slumped. Definitely a night time strain IMO. This is one of the better Runtz crosses and more companies should be growing it, there's always a place in the market for a modern version of classic Blueberry.

Runtz

4/6/2025
So I picked up some Runtz from Simply Herb in Ohio. 29.3% test, with .15% CBD (surprisingly). It has the quintessential camera-friendly Gelato-esque look that is so characteristic of Runtz genetics; tight, pine tree-shaped indica nugs in shades of light green, forest green, dark green, and purple. Great trichome coverage, nicely sticky to the touch, and it beautifully reeks of candy. I usually think it smells more like grape Skittles than Runtz but it's amazing to have weed that smells like candy, in any event. The other interesting thing about the Runtz terps is that in spite of its candy smell, the terpene profile is technically caryophyllene-dominant, and it really comes out in the taste. Up front on the tip of my tongue, it tastes like candy but there's also a nice (and unexpected) spicy/peppery burn behind it. I smoked half a joint of this Runtz 45 minutes ago and I've still got that spicy candy taste lingering in my mouth, it's quite nice. And it's nicely stony, it's a good hybrid kind of high; I'm stoned and relaxed but not sedated like a strong indica would do. I listened to Mozart's 39th Symphony on my headphones and it was such a delightful trip. I'm not big on all these modern polyhybrids but I do love Runtz and the Runtz family. Some of the Runtz crosses are more potent than the original, such as the Greasy Runtz and the Blue Runtz in my experience, but I love to smoke the original and would definitely buy it again.

ECSD

4/1/2025
So I picked up some ECSD at Highwire Farms in Adrian, Michigan. Grown by Grand Crossing. I've been smoking since high school in 1998 and Sour Diesel is an obviously legendary strain, which means there's a lot of stuff that's proclaimed to be Sour D that isn't, but I was pleasantly surprised by this cut of ECSD. I think it's the real thing, the terps are exactly as I've always heard Sour Diesel described - grapefruity diesel/gas fumes mixed with lemony nail polish remover fumes, turned up to 11; just citrusy and gassy AF, strongly suggesting the Chem Dog lineage popularly ascribed to the original Sour D from the 90s and 2000s. It tastes like citrus gas when I smoke it and it brings the strongest aftertaste of sour patch kids. I love the terps and the taste, but the high is what has established this ECSD as my favorite strain, ever; sativas are my first love in cannabis, and this ECSD absolutely blows my head off in the most stony and psychedelic way...yet the ECSD also brings this sense of zenlike calm, where I'm totally fine with how stoned I am. A lot of strong sativas are racy but ECSD is not; in my experience it doesn't even increase my heart rate. It's just the perfect sativa high IMO, it's strong & stony, psychedelic, peaceful and zen-like, and it lasts for hours. More companies need to be growing the ECSD in legal states, it's a legitimate contender to be one of the greatest sativas ever.

OG Kush

3/26/2025
So I picked up some OG Kush grown by BAMN in Michigan and this has quickly become my favorite night time strain. The aroma is a complex combination of pine and cedar with subtle notes of citrus and spice (like I'm talking about wine lol). But it's such a nicely unusual aroma that you don't smell everyday in marijuana. When I smoke a bowl of OG Kush, the top of the bowl tastes sweet and woody while the bottom tastes darkly spicy, I've never had another strain that tastes like it. But the final reason we all love OG Kush so much is on account of the buzz it produces; it comes on in a strong yet smooth manner, first hitting my body with waves of euphoria before the cerebral stone sets in slowly. It feels like the perfect indica hybrid IMO: it's got that physical euphoria and relaxation in the body that you would expect from an indica, but it's also got a cerebral stony side. It's relaxing but it doesn't incapacitate you like a strong indica does.

Cap Junky

3/19/2025
This strain is sold as Cap Junky in Michigan, and Miracle Mints in Ohio. I scored a half of Cap Junky at Heads in Adrian, Michigan, 29% test (which is kind of low for this one, it usually tests in the mid-30's). What a unique powerhouse of a strain! For one thing, these are the frostiest nugs I've ever seen - they are so thickly coated in triches that they appear to be frozen. And I've never encountered terps like this; it smells like half strawberry, half peppermint, turned up to 11. Strawberry with potent minty candy cane fumes. A very tasty smoke in a bowl or a joint, tastes like a fruity candy cane and cinnamon Altoids. Burns the tongue and mouth so nicely. And the buzz - it's a strongy! It hits my body immediately with these waves of minty menthol indica energy, I could feel it in my feet, ankles, shins, waves of peppermint vibes coursing through my body. Virtually no cerebral effects (save for relaxation and a nice buzz in my brain), the initial body buzz smoothes out into total relaxation and random body buzzing. And the cinnamon Altoids aftertaste lingers with you so nicely, a cinnamon-pepperminty companion for your late-night slump. I wouldn't dream of smoking this one during the day. It's really potent and it tastes so good that it makes you want to smoke more.

Sour Diesel

3/19/2025
So I recently picked up a quarter of "East Coast Sour Diesel", grown by Grand Crossing in Michigan. 27% test. I've been smoking since high school in 1998 and I can tell you that from the first time I smoked this cut of ECSD, I knew it was my favorite strain. Sativas are my first love in cannabis and this Sour Diesel is exactly what I've always wanted in a potent sativa high: it's strong, stony, and psychedelic but it also has this other side where it puts you into this calm, relaxed, zen-like state, and you are perfectly OK with how stoned you are. It's an extremely potent, stony and psychedelic sativa that isn't racy and it doesn't make you anxious or paranoid, and the buzz has legs. This is weed that makes me want to put on my headphones and listen to Mozart or Pink Floyd for hours, or to sit out stargazing at night, but I also see where it would be great to share with friends. The nose on this excellent flower is a pungent combination of grapefruity diesel fumes and lemony nail polish remover, so strong and sooo good! Has that grapefruit/jolly rancher/sour patch kids sort of taste, I love it so much, reminds me of the taste of Gelonade. But there's a very good reason that Sour Diesel is so widely regarded as the greatest strain ever, or certainly one of the greatest sativas at the very least. More companies in more legal states need to be growing this Sour Diesel, everybody is going to want it! But I understand it's kind of a finicky plant that's kind of a PITA to grow.
