Pedro's Sweet Sativa

8/13/2019
The first thing I noticed upon opening the package was an pleasant sweet scent, and upon smoking there was also a sweet taste to compliment it's scent. So far this strain is living up to it's name. This strain seems to have plenty of fans but usually I avoid getting pure Sativa'sjust because they sometimes give me paranoia, but this sample was very manageable and with it's enjoyable scent and taste I think this is among the better Sativa's I've tried. Color Cannabis (WeedMD) has so far provided some of the better legal strains I've tried and this was no exception. The condition of the flower upon opening was ideal, a mix of bud sizes but nothing dry and in fact I think they might have been generous in this 3.5g batch. I won't hesitate to get this again if I can find it (it tends to disappear from retail pretty quick).

Blue Dream

Picked up 3.5g of this after work yesterday and I have to agree with other reviewer of this strain, for something being marketed by Aurora as a "sativa" this is actually pretty balanced. The size of the nuggets are vary between small and medium (which is fine for a batch only 3.5g) and are in ideal condition, and their scent provides a hint of blueberry. High was enhancing and not overpowering. THC% was 17.5. I hope to grab some more of this again in the future.

Easy Cheesy

6/14/2019
Was checking out "TheOCS" reddit page the other day and noticed that Liiv's Kinky Kush seems to be all the rage and seems to frequently sell out. Went by the local shop today I wondered if they might have some. They didn't, but they did have some Easy Cheesy and then Irealized that it's been some time since I had me some Cheese, so here we go! I noticed that some of the complaints here mention a lack of cheesy smell and/or taste. My nose isn't the finest but the 3.5 package I got did have aroma, and the smoke did provide that distinct flavor you should expect from a cheese strain. Small buds and a little shake (just enough for the first joint I smoked) but I don't expect anything more for the amount I got and really I care more about the condition of the bud than the size of them, and these were in great condition. Not dry at all, smooth smoke, grey ash. Strong buzz (20% THC) but nothing overwhelming. For the price I paid, which was under $10 a gram $28.95) this was real good value. I know others haven't had the same experience with this product that I just had but what can I say, this batch I got was very good cannabis.

If I could have given this a 2 and a half stars I would have. I grabbed some on a whim when I was just looking to try something new and this looked promising. Upon open opening the container the flower was a little on the dry side but still acceptable. The problem really is that it lacks "punch". There's definitely a stern slap because it will get you high (which is why I'd give is another half star if I could), but it's a brief effect and 60 minutes later (max) your stone cold sober. I picked up no scents or tastes of note from the flower itself or while smoking, so all in all this was very underwhelming. I should note this seems to be one of the less expensive "legal" stains out there at less than $10 a gram but I still don't think the value was there. If this was being offered as a true budget strain, let's say something like $5-$6 a gram, then I'd call that reasonable.

Rise

Been a while since I've had a chance to try a new strain so I picked this up on the weekend. Tokyo Smoke seems to be a Tweed brand which is kind of local for me, so it seemed to make sense that I try and support a local producer. The quality of the flower was ideal but I did note the THC total was low, only 12.8% (I mention this because they're advertising that it should be between 15-20%). This is why I am not giving this strain a perfect score. But THC isn't everything and I have indeed been enjoying this strain. It definitely has a distinct and pleasant scent that I'd call almost floral. The effect provided was exactly what I want from a hybrid strain, enhancing but not overpowering. This is something you can enjoy any time during the day, and possibly at almost any occasion. I would love to try this strain again if I can get a batch showing a THC total that's within the advertised range.

Hobo Cannabis Company - Centretown

5/8/2019
This past weekend I elected to visit Hobo for the first time and see how it differs from my main dispensary. I have to immediately give them a strike for not carding me as soon as I went into the store, because the nice looking lady at the front who should have been checking ID's was too busy chatting away with a friend. Now maybe she decided there was no way I'm underage (which is accurate - I'm almost 40), but I'm pretty sure she should be checking everyone regardless. Their showcase area reminds me of an Apple store, since every table has a tablet on it where you can browse the menu and actually place an order so that by the time you get to a cash register it's ready to go. This makes this store the most efficient for placing and finishing an order and I really appreciate that efficiency. But I found their overall selection was lacking. Fortunately there was a selection so I'm not implying the store was bare, but my usual dispensary has more options at all budget levels. I think it's for this reason I'm sticking to my usual dispensary, but I will come back again from time to time.

Fire & Flower - Ottawa York St.

I guess the first thing I'll get out of the way is the very real problem of lack of accessibility for those in wheelchairs, and it is for this reason alone that I'm giving this store a 3/5 stars for service. When the accessibility problem has been resolved then you can consider it a 5/5. I've been here twice because it's location is rather excellent being located in the Byward market area and not too far from a future LRT station. I can see this store being the hotspot for tourists. I deducted a point for atmosphere because the store lacks a lobby, so when the store is full (which it often is right now) you're forced to wait in a lineup outside. But I think the volume of visitors will dissipate as more stores open throughout the city. Inside you'll see monitors displaying the strains available and their prices, plus there's tablets you can pick up if you want to search for anything specific. They also have this display with cards for every available strain that you can just take and bring over to the counter to place an order. Overall this is a good store but there's definitely issues they'll need to address should they have any plans on being the top dispensary in Ottawa.

White Widow

3/10/2019
This is the third variant of White Window I've seen available via OCS so I figured it was time to give it a shot. Of the three it was the most expensive at about a dollar more per gram but I guess the extra buck gets invested into presentation because it arrived with the most elaborate packaging. But is that a good thing since that means there's more packaging to throw out? I'll give them credit for extending the presentation to the condition (and trim) of the buds also, which was immaculate. This sample contained 17.58% THC and the effect held up with the competitors offerings. Now I do have one concern but I don't have a scale laying around to confirm anything, but it really looked short after I first opened the jar. What I ordered was 3.5 grams, and the packaging did indeed indicate that I received 3.5 grams, but the first time I looked at was in the jar it really looked like there just wasn't enough bud in there for 3.5. I must to admit I may be wrong - but I can say that at the same time I also ordered 3.5 grams of something else. I've been doing my best to smoke equal amount of both samples, and while I know it won't prove anything, I am now just about out of the White Window while I have at least a gram left of the other sample. But that still doesn't prove it was short so I can't factor it into my score. Therefore I must decide if at a dollar more a gram is there any value here over Canaca's White Widow or Redecan's - and the answer is no unless you really value nicer packaging and presentation.

Flix 'N Chill

2/24/2019
Been smoking Xscape's Flix 'N Chill about a week now and this is a good strain if you like something with a little punch to it. My batch had 21% THC and I detected a distinct floral scent upon opening the package for the first time. My only issue was how potent it is for something marketed as "Flix 'N Chill". This really isn't a strain to chill with, instead it gets off your a$$ and doing something. Smoke this before undertaking a project like housework and chores, but not before bed.

Wappa

2/11/2019
On the OCS website Redecan's Wappa is described as having "a strong yet sweet aroma that verges on skunkiness", but I got to agree with the others around here, I didn't get any "skunkiness" so if you feel that's some kind of false advertising then I get where you're coming from. However I did get hints of the sweetness, and the batch I got was an impressively strong batch at 22% THC. The end result was an effect that's a touch too strong for my preference, and surprisingly (for an Indica) not something I'd suggest using as a sleep aid. If you're looking for a strong Indica, and don't mind a little couch lock, then this product delivers, but I prefer an effect that's a little less intense.
