Fakequity

A term meaning “fake equity”—when individuals, companies, or government agencies talk about creating social equity programs but don’t follow through, often in an attempt to appear progressive.  “The state talked a big game about including social equity programs, but when they finally legalized weed, none were in the bill—fakequity at its worst.

Fatty

Slang for a large, usually wide, joint. “I rolled a fatty for the concert.

Feminized

Types of marijuana seeds that have been bred to produce only female cannabis plants, which produce buds. Feminized seeds are easier to grow than regular seeds and more common for first-time growers because they eliminate the process of having to sex out plants to remove males, which produce pollen and not buds.

Fenchol

A terpene with the smell of pine, lemon, and camphor, commonly found in basil and aster flowers, as well as some strains of cannabis. Fenchol has many known medicinal properties, most notably antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects. Due to its unique smell, fenchol is frequently used in perfumes.

Fire

An adjective used to describe high quality cannabis, typically flower or concentrates. “Fuego,” the Spanish word for “fire,” is also used in the same way. “This bud smells fire!” “I bought some shatter the other day that was absolute fire.” What is fire cannabis?  Weed is “fire” if it is of high quality.

Fixed downstem

A downstem is the piece of a water pipe that connects the bowl to the main chamber, and in this case it is fixed to the pipe, but others can be removable. The downstem helps provide suction, pulling smoke or vapor into the water before getting inhaled.

Flavonoid

Flavonoids are chemical compounds present in cannabis and other plants, best known for their role in pigmentation—they provide plants with various colors to attract pollinators and potentially protect plants from UV rays, pests, and disease. Flavonoids found in cannabis are called “cannflavins” and they contribute to the overall color of the plant.

Flower

Flower, also known as “bud,” is the trichome-rich part of the female cannabis plant that clusters into colas. Flowering time

The length of time it takes a cannabis plant to flower, or grow buds. Different plants have short or long flowering times based on their genetics.   “I love growing indicas because they have a short flowering time.

Fresh frozen

The process of freezing cannabis immediately after harvest, usually with dry ice, to preserve trichomes for concentrate extraction. Fresh frozen cannabis usually produces high-quality concentrates such as live resins and live rosins, and saves cultivators time and labor by skipping the trimming, drying, and curing processes.

Frit

Frit is a ceramic, powder-like material made from a number of inorganic materials that have been melted together and crushed to a granular consistency. It is often used for glazing and decorative purposes in glassblowing, and can be used to make pipes, bongs, and other pieces.

Full melt

Full melt is a term for high-grade dry sieve or water hash—it fully melts and doesn’t leave a residue or char behind. Dry sieve and water hash are rated on a scale of one to six stars, indicating refinement and meltability. Full-melt hash is highly refined and usually rated at five or six stars.
