Thousands of businesses shuttered in Toronto during the pandemic, but those empty storefronts of former bars, cafes and clothing stores have seemingly transformed overnight into one cannabis dispensary after the next.
Some of the city’s most beloved haunts are now legal pot shops. Certain neighbourhoods like Kensington Market, which used to house a few discreet grey market shops prior to legalization in 2018, now have four cannabis shops just on one block.
Queen West, St. Lawrence Market and Leslieville aren’t much better and even beyond downtown, there’s no shortage of dispensaries to be had. There are more than 300 legal retail weed stores in Toronto so far in 2022 and the number is only expected to grow.
At this point, the market is feeling saturated and finding a cannabis shop in TO—one that you actually like and trust—feels overwhelming. Luckily, Leafly has a network of passionate cannabis partakers who’ve tried dozens of dispensaries and ranked their top picks.
Scroll on for five of the best-rated weed dispensaries in Toronto.
Bonnefire
244 Queen St. W—Toronto, ON
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 4.8 star rating (19 reviews)
Bonnefire has prime real estate on the corner of Queen W and John. While it’s in the thick of the urban sprawl, inside feels like Muskoka. The interior design embraces a nature-focused approach with raw wood displays, and one Leafly user says it has “cottage country” vibes. They’re not wrong.
Bonnefire passes the vibe check and also scores high for its selection of mainstay favourite strains as well as a rotating selection of new and unique flower. The staff also stand out.
“I love the fact they took the time to explain the different CBD products they had,” says one Leafly reviewer. “They took the time to educate me and not push me into the sale. I left knowing a lot more and appreciative.”
Green Merchant Cannabis Boutique
294 Danforth Ave. – Toronto, ON
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (5 reviews)
You know how some folks find themselves a local watering hole and stick with it? Green Merchant is like that for locals at Danforth and Broadview, but for weed. “This is my favourite neighbourhood spot. Everyone is always incredibly helpful, friendly, and honest,” explains one Leafly reviewer.
This Toronto dispensary has gotten a reputation for its friendly and approachable budtenders who are eager to find the right product for every patron that walks through the door.
Green Merchant also offers free same-day delivery in the city on orders over $50 placed before 4 pm, plus hosts monthly sales, like the current Wake n Bake (ongoing, until June 30, 2022), which saves 10% on online and in-store orders placed from 10:30 – 11 am.
Spiritleaf
142 Adelaide St. E – Toronto, ON
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (7 reviews) (5 reviews)
Spiritleaf has a top-notch menu both in-store and online. There are dozens of dried flower options in addition to a stellar selection of pre-rolls, milled weed, vapes, extracts, and edibles.
“Great selection. They bring in different products every week so the choice is always rotating (and have their regular stuff too),” says one reviewer. Others feel the same. “Wide array of products—latest/greatest, craft and organic plus nice quality value strains,” writes another.
The Adelaide shop is right in the middle of Old Town at Jarvis, around the corner from the St. Lawrence Market. Folks appreciate its convenience and also praise its budtenders. It’s also a franchise—like with all good franchises, it leans into consistency. Spiritleaf is the first-ever first Canadian cannabis business to be accepted into the Canadian Franchise Association.
Wonderland Cannabis
1578 Queen St. E – Toronto, ON
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (7 reviews)
Wonderland Cannabis is the go-to spot in the Beaches. “We are so lucky to have this dispensary in the neighbourhood!! This place makes my day every time I go, they really know their product and the store has such a fresh, cool vibe,” says one reviewer, who also pointed out the shop’s unique living plant wall.
Wonderland Cannabis’ Beaches location has over 850 products to choose from, and they regularly bring in new goods, too. If you’re not able to get into the store, they also offer same-day express delivery.
Orders are delivered between 1 pm and 10 pm to folks that live in the area (including the Danforth) and will arrive at your doorstep within 90 minutes of making your order. Their website also has a coupon section with rotating sales, like 5% off in-store or 10% off your first online purchase.
FIKA Local
900 Dufferin St. – Toronto, ON
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (6 reviews)
FIKA Local’s newish cannabis retail shop inside Dufferin Mall is a game-changer for local residents. “The layout is great,” says one Leafly reviewer. “I really appreciated how accessible it is to those using mobility devices…Such a great addition to Dufferin Mall!”
Like other FIKA Local shops, this one boasts a Tuck Shop fridge filled with cold cannabis-infused drinks, a Pre-Roll bar, a wide selection of vape pens and carts as well as easy-to-explore dried flower that’s well labelled and displayed.
This particular location follows mall hours (Monday to Friday, 10 am – 8 pm, Saturday 10 am – 9 pm and Sunday 11 am – 6 pm), so plan your visit as it isn’t open as late as some other weed shops.
There are deals to be had, too: Students that are 19+ get a 5% discount Monday through Friday and seniors (55+) enjoy 20% off on Mondays and 5% on Tuesday through Sunday.
