It makes sense that Ontario, Canada’s most populated province, is also the biggest spender when it comes to cannabis.

There are a lot of people who call Ontario home—14.7 million to be exact—and the province also welcomes millions of visitors each year, with many partaking in the country’s legalized weed market.

And while certain provinces are seeing a decline in recreational cannabis sales, they are only going up in Ontario.

The province accounts for 42% of all recreational cannabis sales nationwide. Last year, according to the Ontario Cannabis Store, overall legal weed sales in the province topped $394 million in the second quarter—a sizable increase from $204.3 million over the same period the previous year.

Legalization has been good for Canada’s overall economy, too. According to 2022 research by Deloitte, the cannabis sector has contributed $13.3 billion to the provincial gross domestic product (GDP) since legalization began in 2018, and $43.5 billion to Canada’s overall GDP.

There’s no denying it: Ontarians love that good, good green.

Highest-rated recreational weed dispensaries in Ontario

Ontario has an almost overwhelming number of cannabis stores in operation right now, with more than 1,200 province-wide.

Experts warn that this kind of growth isn’t sustainable, but we’ve got faith in these 15 best-rated weed stores in Ontario. Thanks to their superior customer service, shopping experience, and the quality of their products, these dispensaries have rave reviews.

Here are the best cannabis stores to shop for weed across Ontario, according to Leafly reviewers.

FIKA Local

91 First Commerce Drive – Aurora, ON

⭐ ⭐ (5 reviews)

Located just off the 404, FIKA’s Aurora shop on First Commerce Drive is as convenient as it is consistent. Upon entry, guests will notice flower displayed in helpful magnified domes and, like at other FIKA locations, there’s a designated Vape Bar that showcases carts and accessories, as well as a fridge dubbed the Tuck Shop, which houses weed-infused beverages.

FIKA does occasional sales, which sometimes reach upwards of 20% off select products, so make sure to keep an eye on the shop’s social accounts to save a couple bucks. While folks love FIKA for its competitive pricing, one thing that also gets repeated again and again in the reviews: dogs. FIKA is a dog-friendly shop, so don’t be shy to pop by with your pooch.

RELM Cannabis Co.

4031 Fairview St.—Burlington, ON

⭐ 4.5 star rating (70 reviews)

RELM doesn’t have dozens of locations like other retailers, but that’s what makes them special. Their first store opened in Burlington in April 2019, shortly after legalization, to service the area. They’ve been conscious about when and where to open new locations ever since.

Today, each store—there are three in Southern Ontario with a fourth one coming soon to East Hamilton—maintains a consistent, airy vibe with white walls, white marble flooring, and wood accents. The shop feels immediately calming when you walk through the doors. Combine that with pleasant staff who are engaged and ready to lend a helping hand and you’ve got yourself a winning combo.

The original location—at the intersection of Fairview and Walker’s Line, just a stone’s throw from the QEW—is a convenient stop for locals just as much as commuters passing through.

The brand’s mission is to “value efficiency, positivity and community,” and based on what people have been saying for the past three years, they’re managing to do just that.

High Tea Cannabis Co.

60 Ross St.—St. Thomas, ON

⭐ ⭐ 5 star rating (10 reviews)

St. Thomas is a small, but mighty town, much like this High Tea location. Southwestern Ontario has a lot of pop shops, but this one shines for its unique location tucked inside of a brick heritage homestead in the city’s downtown. The location is unique, but the competitive pricing has people talking.

“Very friendly and helpful staff, and the lowest prices I’ve seen at a dispensary,” wrote one Leafly reviewer. “Great staff and AMAZING prices. Best store in town,” added another reviewer. High Tea offers a variety of cannabis products, including traditional flower, milled weed, vape carts, edibles, topicals and more.

FIKA Local

171 N. Queen St.—Etobicoke, ON

⭐ ⭐ 5 star rating (17 reviews)

FIKA Local has an impressive 16 locations across Ontario, and many of them are province-wide standouts (as you’ll see scrolling through this list).

FIKA’s Etobicoke shop on North Queen St. continues to maintain its 5/5 ratings on Leafly, most notably for its elevated design, informative staff, and top-tier products. Thanks to its sleek in-store shopping aesthetic and high-quality cannabis, one user called this FIKA location the “Gucci of all cannabis retailers.”

Top praise if we’ve ever heard it.

Bonnefire

244 Queen St. W—Toronto, ON

⭐ 4.8 star rating (19 reviews)

It can feel like there’s a dispensary on every corner in Toronto’s downtown core. Because of that density, weed retailers have to up their game in order to stand out.

Even though it’s sitting pretty in prime real estate at the intersection of Queen and John, the vibe inside Bonnefire is more country cottage than a concrete jungle.

Like most of the other Ontario cannabis stores on our list, Bonnefire offers both online shopping and delivery services in addition to in-store shopping. Its competitive prices mean it’s a spot you’ll feel good about spending your hard-earned dollars at.

Dutch Love

1642 Merivale Rd. – Ottawa

⭐ ⭐ (5 reviews)

If you have yet to visit a Dutch Love, do yourself a solid and go. The design feels similar to a low-key cool Scandinavian coffee shop, but don’t mistake that for being pretentious. It’s in fact the opposite. These guys do a legit good job hiring budtenders that are welcoming, well-versed in the world of weed and actually care about what they’re selling and to whom. “The whole vibe of this place is great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable,” writes one Leafly reviewer. “The decor is nice, but not over the top kitchy like some others around. Best of all they have a great selection and great pricing.”

The Merivale shop west of Ottawa’s core is open daily from 9am to 11pm with over three dozen strains to explore. They also offer pick-up and delivery options, and folks are here for that.

“I ordered online and the process from start to finish was very easy and user friendly,” writes one reviewer. “I quickly received a confirmation email and text within 1 min of ordering…from online purchase to complete order ready for pickup, maybe 6 or 7 minutes.” Dutch Love says to give them 20 minutes to prepare an online order for pick-up, but often it’s faster.

High Tea ranks twice on our Best Dispensaries in Ontario list and, much like its St. Thomas location, the Brampton spot scores high. This particular Brampton cannabis shop is tucked inside of the Kennedy Square Mall shopping centre, so the convenience is hard to beat.

Budtenders often make a dispensary a top choice for customers, and this High Tea location has some deeply passionate and talented staff. “When I called the store with a million questions they were patient and helped me understand what I was buying,” wrote one customer. “I highly recommend and will be back!”

5 star rating (12 reviews)

Sessions Cannabis operates over 40 locations in Ontario, and Durham residents rave about the Oshawa spot. One user nailed it with their honest praise: “This is the kind of place that brings people into the legal market.”

This particular cannabis shop is inside of a strip mall, but don’t let that deter you. The budtenders truly care about weed and are serving up expert advice on the daily. Inside, the store is bright and modern and has inventory that’s competitive with the OCS itself.

If you’re visiting this location, keep in mind that Bond St. and King St., which run parallel on either side of Warren St., where this Sessions is located, are one-way streets, so plan your route accordingly.

Come to Sessions’ Peterborough location and you’re bound to find the same welcoming decor, easy-to-navigate layout that highlights the extensive product line-up, and smiling budtenders who are educated and eager to help.

Customers value the approachability of the staff, which is one of the reasons it ranks so high—though competitive pricing is a close second. It feels necessary to point out that this Peterborough dispensary is steps away from the Canadian Canoe Museum, a unique place to explore post-sesh.

⭐ ⭐ 5 star rating (14 reviews)

FIKA Local currently has 16 cannabis stores province-wide and the Oshawa location is a treasured spot in the region.

“As a new mother, I’m quite selective with where I shop for cannabis…I don’t mind travelling a little extra to visit the best. FIKA shops are beautiful and clean, with staff that is (sic) super friendly and engaging, and a selection that is large without being overwhelming,” writes one reviewer.

Beyond the expected praises, FIKA also has a unique feature where they showcase different Canadian Vintage weed growers on rotation. At the time of writing, its “Vintage list” included two Nova Scotia LPs: Skosha, Nova Scotia’s first-ever licensed producer, and Msiku (m-see-goo), an LP 100% owned and operated in the province’s Mi’kma’ki territory.
