A type of percolator in glass bongs and dab rigs made of several stacked disc-shaped bubbler chambers. Water moves up each chamber when inhaling smoke or vapor, as if climbing a ladder. As with all percolators, ladder percs cool and filter smoke, making hits smoother.
“This bong with a ladder perc absolutely rips.”
“The ladder perc is just one of GRAV’s many innovations in the glass world.”
What is a ladder perc?
The ladder percolator was designed by Micah Evans, a senior designer at Texas-based glassware company GRAV. The “ladder” is a stack of bubbler chambers that pull up water upon inhalation, generating a plethora of bubbles and quickly cooling smoke or vapor. Ladder percs allow for big, smooth hits by cooling and filtering smoke or vapor.
How to clean a ladder perc
The design of a ladder perc makes it very difficult to clean with a tool. As with other kinds of percolators, ladder percolators can collect residue quickly and clog, so they should be cleaned regularly.
The best way to clean a piece with a ladder perc is to fill it up with a mix of isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt until the perc is submerged. Give it a light shake to dislodge buildup, and let it sit for at least an hour. Rinse thoroughly with hot water, let it dry, and it’s ready to use again.
