A nail, the apparatus that holds cannabis concentrate in a dab rig, can either be domeless, or domed. Domeless nails are open and usually require a carb cap to help regulate airflow, and domed nails have an additional glass dome piece around the nail that helps contain vapor when dabbing.
“I kept breaking domes so I switched to domeless nails.”
What is a domeless nail?
Domed nails require an additional glass dome to be placed around the heated nail, containing vapor and helping to regulate airflow. Domeless nails were later developed to get rid of domes and instead require the use of a carb cap, which also regulates airflow and creates more efficient and consistent convective heat than a dome.
Some dabbers like using a dome because you can keep distance from a hot nail, but domeless nails have become the standard because they are easier to use with a carb cap. Domes can also break easily, making them less desirable.
How to use a domeless nail
Heat your nail to the desired temperature with a torch and let it cool down. If using an e-nail, set the dial to your desired temperature and wait for it to heat up. Drop your dab or glob of concentrate onto the nail, place a carb cap over it, and inhale. After your nail has cooled down, clean it with rubbing alcohol.
